The Role: Chief of Staff

The Chief of Staff (CoS) will serve as a force multiplier for the Managing General Partner (MGP), to make time, information, and decision-making more effective, enabling the success of the MGP, her strategic priorities, and all of MRV.  Working in tandem with the MGP, COO, Head of Portfolio Development, Investment Committees, and the MGP’s EA, the CoS will gain a front-row seat to the leadership of a complex, large, and growing venture capital firm within a global corporation. After 2-3 years, the CoS will have an opportunity to pursue other opportunities with MRV, an MBA, or other options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organization & Prioritization
    • Manage & track MGP inbound and outbound deal flow pipeline
    • Prioritization and project management of strategic topics (initiatives, deals, decisions, and actions)
    • Manage and prioritize internal and external requests for information, review, and approval
  • Strategic Thinking, Analysis, Research
    • Perform market assessments, research, and perspectives
    • Perform “deep dive analysis” on highly technical subject areas surrounding technology, analytics, etc.
    • Modeling across a variety of methods, business types, and desired outcomes (e.g., sizing a market, financials).
  • Communications & Inter-Organizational Coordination
    • Act as a liaison across the broader corporate organization, developing and maintaining strong relationships with the corporate functions, Staff Assistants / Chiefs of Staff, EAs, and others to drive critical initiatives and priorities
  • MGP Industry Participation / Speaking Engagements
    • Assist with prep for all speaking engagements and interview requests (internal & external)
    • Coordinate engagement with industry organizations, to ensure she both fulfills responsibilities and makes progress on key topics of interest

Requirements and Qualifications

  • College degree required; graduate degree preferred
  • 2-5 years of experience, including 1-2 years in management consulting, corporate strategy, VC, or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and have the aptitude to learn other applications quickly
